Château Gaillard, a family story

The latest in a long line of winemakers, Sébastien Gutty proudly represents the Beaujolais region at the 12-hectare Château Gaillard estate in the village of Villié-Morgon.

Sébastien Gutty is the latest in a long line of winegrowers. The Guttys have been winegrowers for seven generations, passing the trade down from father to son. That’s quite something! Sébastien took over Château Gaillard in 1997, the 12-hectare estate acquired by his family in 1972. Located in the village of Villié-Morgon, he naturally produces Morgon, the village’s flagship appellation, but he also owns vineyards in the Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent appellations. From the campsite, you can head to the Château Gaillard estate to visit its wine cellar or admire the beautiful wine press that stands proudly in front of the château and, of course, taste three of the 10 Beaujolais crus. Sébastien welcomes you into his cellar to introduce you to his wines. These wines are produced from old vines, around 60 years old. Some are even over a hundred years old.
However, Sébastien Gutty has chosen to replant certain plots to develop his cultivation methods. He takes particular care to cultivate the grapes without chemical fertilisers and by harvesting by hand, before ageing the wine in wooden casks for 6 to 12 months. This produces fruity wines, typical of Gamay. These wines are easy to drink, whether as an aperitif or with a meal.

Château Gaillard Open daily from 1 April to 31 December, from 10am to 5pm,
